R.I.P. BEN TEAGUE, MARIE BRUCE and TOM TANNER
April 25, 2009
The Town and Gown Players of Athens, GA lost three dear friends and mentors on
Saturday, April 25, 2009 at roughly 12:30 in the afternoon. As the players gathered
to celebrate their yearly reunion via a "Homecoming Picnic", a man entered the
scene with two loaded handguns and destroyed not only their individual lives, but
the lives of their families, their children, their spouses, their friends, their
community, and last but not least, the theatre which hosted this horrific event.

I will not waste one inch of this page describing the killer, as he is not worth my
attention. And surely, the details of their deaths can be found on any news site.
This page instead is devoted to the victims - Ben Teague, Tom Tanner, and Marie
Bruce, and to the Town and Gown theatre itself. I would like to post pictures,
comments, remembrances of the heroes, funny stories, you name it. Anything to
help honor the fallen. I have attached some weblinks and news reports below --
ones that I feel honor their memories, rather than sensationalize the tragic events.

If you have pictures, weblinks, or stories you'd like to add, please email me to let
me know. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Daniel Guyton

Hey Dan,

I wanted to post this in Marie's memory. A month or so ago,
Sherrelle and I were visiting Marie at her office. After
getting all the legal work out of the way, Marie took off her
glasses and leaned forward on her desk. (This was the way
Marie changed from my lawyer to the Town and Gown
President each time I visited her office). We were talking
about our new experience in Town and Gown. Marie spoke of
how much she loved the theatre, but she also voiced a
concern. Marie said that in the many years she has been
part of Town and Gown (she reminded us that that was
before some of you were even born), there have never been
factions forming. She hopes that it never happens.

I am impressed how much Town and Gown honored Marie's
memory by coming together as one big family during this
tragedy. I have met so many new people through all of this.
They are all amazing people that I hope to work with in the
future. I know Marie would be so proud of her "family."
